Roofing in Weston Creek: 70s homes on the bushfire interface
Weston Creek was built in the 1970s and sits hard against the western bush edge. Duffy, Chapman and Rivett were among the suburbs hit by the 2003 Canberra firestorm, and bushfire awareness is part of roofing here in a way it isn't elsewhere in the city. Beyond fire, the work is classic 70s tile: worn coatings, frost-cracked pointing and ageing valleys. When we restore or re-roof on this edge we pay attention to ember-entry points (gaps at ridges, valleys and eaves, and gutter debris that becomes fuel) detailing a bush-zone roof should have.
