Roofing in Gungahlin: a district built in Colorbond
Unlike older Canberra, Gungahlin was built from the late 1990s onward almost entirely in metal: Colorbond steel on low pitch, modern rooflines. That changes the work completely. Instead of tile restoration, Gungahlin roofs need leak detection at flashings and penetrations, replacement of failed fastener washers, and remediation of the small-eaves, low pitch designs that can pond or back up in heavy rain. The earliest Gungahlin suburbs (Ngunnawal, Palmerston, Amaroo) now carry 20 to 25 year old roofs hitting their first real service point.
